Baccarat Rules

Now referring to the game, the main idea is to bet on either the bank's or the player's hand to win, or a tie between them.

Each one gets two cards and if the hand you betted on wins, you win even money. Even money bets are 1 to 1, meaning if you bet five dollars, you're paid back the five plus five more, so your profit is equal to your bet. If you bet on a tie and it turns out to be one, you're paid 8 to 1. Meaning if you bet 5 dollars on a tie and win, you're paid back your five, plus 40 dollars more.

What you have to try in baccarat is have a total, of the value for the two cards in your hands, close to 9. The ace card is worth 1, the cards 2 through 9 are worth their value. Tens and face cards are considered zero. The simplicity of baccarat rules reflects the simplicity of the scoring and goal itself.

Since all gambling games have a tricky part, baccarat has its own: although there is no such thing as a 'busting hand' as in blackjack, when your initial card total is a two digit number, the first digit is dropped.

If you are dealt a pair of eights, with the total 16, but the total is set to 6, as the leading 1 is dropped. If your first two cards total 8 or 9, your hand is declared a 'natural' and you win (unless there is a tie between yours and the bank's tie). If either hand is a natural, both hands stand, the natural hand wins. If the total is not a natural win on either hand, another card is drawn for each hand to determine the winner.

Winning banker hands are usually taxed 5% by the casinos. Here's a little piece of information that you won't find so often on baccarat related sites: even with the 5% cut taken from winning on a banker hand bet, there is still an advantage to betting on the banker. The advantage is slim, in the area 0.18%, but in the world of gambling that's really not that small.

We hope the information on baccarat you've found here is enough to make you feel more confident of trying this game out then before.

It may be a good idea to first try playing it for free, as you will find it on some online casino sites and within minutes you'll feel comfortable enough to play anywhere. With the passing of time, you will probably get to 'feel' the course of this simple, yet challenging game, baccarat.

There aren't many rules, and the baccarat rules that do exist are fairly simple, they just differ from other games you may have played at (online) casinos, so may take a little getting used to. Anyway, trying it out will at least offer you a new experience, or maybe more.
